Ahoy-hoy, visitor! You’re one of the lucky millions upon millions to visit my personal collection of blogerations! Way to use the Internet, genius!

What follows is kind-of brief description of who I am. I doubt anyone will read it. But you should. Because I am truly fascinating.

Me

My full name is Sam Iles. I was born and live in England.

I am the managing director of Smiles Software and I am involved with other projects too: I co-direct a debt management company and I am the trustee of a medical research charity.

The charity I’m trustee of aims to end animal testing by accepting donations and then passing those directly to medical research charities that do not test on animals. It’s a very different approach to this problem. Visit Cures Without Cages.

I have a strong interest in technology. In particular, programming and systems architecture. My favourite type of programming is PHP web applications. My favourite language is Python. I’m one of those people who says “whack” when others say “forward slash” and “splat” to refer to what others call the “Apple key”. I love everything Apple. My iPhone, iPad and my MacBook are where I spend most of my time. Those and my Kindle.

Tech aside, my interests include music, gaming, reading, stalking Kristen Stewart and more. My favourite music maker is BeyoncĂ© – she rocks my weird little world. I wish I owned a hummous, doughnut, (Dublin) Dr Pepper and falafel factory so that I could get an unlimited supply of said foodstuffs at cost price.

I am passionate about animal rights. I can think of few circumstances where it is imperative to use animals and I imagine a future where the world feels the same. To that end, I am vegan. And I will gladly discuss my thoughts on this with anyone.

I get pretty upset about all the bad stuff that happens: I believe we will see an end to poverty and starvation and global warming within our lifetimes, providing a few key events happen.

On a deeper level, I consider my self socially liberal, very liberal; a secular humanist; atheist; on certain issues fiscally conservative and on others fiscally transformative; fervently green; and mildly global. I has obsession with grammar.

The Site

I write here about nearly anything with no clear focus. Often about technology and animals, but often very different issues. You can subscribe to the RSS feed if my writing interests you (and, frankly, it does interest just about everyone).

The site is hosted on a VPS running Ubuntu/Apache and the blog is powered by WordPress.
